Remember this:
One day you will be sick.” —
Poem written by an 11 year old Afghan girl
This poem was recorded in a NYT magazine article about female underground poetry groups in Afghanistan. An amazing article about the ways in which women are using a traditional two line poetry form to express their resistance to male oppression, their feelings about love (considered blasphemous), and their doubts about religion.
One of the best articles I’ve read all year. Here’s the link

Just in case anyone was curious

The Boxer Rebellion- “soviets”
I just finished reading the last Hunger Games book, Mockingjay, which was depressing as fuck, and I started listening to this song and it reminded me of the series.
I feel kind of lame when songs remind me of pop culture things, and kind of especially lame about connecting this song which came out before the hunger games and has nothing to do with the books, but here I am making the connections. Generally this is one of my favorite songs ever anyways, but I’ve been listening to it all morning and it keeps reminding me of different scenes and sort of the overall feel of the series.
It almost feels to me as if each verse of the song is representative of each of the books. Here are the verses and final chorus: you can decide and interpret for yourselves…
Heading Westwards towards the sun
When the past starts to bleed into one
And the rest will disagree
How your innocence can sway easily
Heading Westwards towards the sun
Where we’re going everything comes undone
We were lost from the start
We won’t be here when the rest falls apart
Run so long
Don’t run away from me
How long
Don’t run away from me
Oh I can tell
Your words so well
And all I can see
Is that I
I’m sorry, sorry
I’m sorry, sorry
Idk what do you all think?
but wait….I thought…didn’t someone just try to tell me last night that the military isn’t sexist?
Some might consider my logic faulty, but, gosh, I would think that an organization that isn’t sexist wouldn’t have such a problem with rape.
This is a blog post with some idiot’s opinions and no actual fact, other than referenced facts which he twists around to make sound inaccurate. So, as always, it falls on me to find actual reputable sources that prove what everyone already knows to be true: that yes, the military is sexist.
In fact, this dumbass blog post you found actually, in my opinion, highlights how sexist the military is: this bro is homophobic, he twists around actual statistics, and accuses females of abusing the system to “be treated special.”
Like, I honestly can’t figure out if you’re being serious with this.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18629749…(I know you’re used to simpleminded blog posts on army forums, so just a warning that this is an academic paper with a lot of big fancy words in it. But it has real numbers from an actual study and actual statistics based on actual data.)

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33230836/ns/us_news-military/t/lesbians-more-likely-be-kicked-out-military/ …(this one is from before DADT was repealed but let’s be real not much has changed in the homophobia department or do I need to prove that too?)

so go ahead and google to your heart’s content and find blog post after blog post of whiney men who think female service members accuse poor innocent men of sexual assault when they were just making a joke.
Try finding something with facts next time. The internet is a vast series of tubes. Certainly at least one of the tubes should lead you to some truth.
